What Is Full-Service Design?

Hello friends! In today’s blog post I wanted to talk all about full-service design. Full-service design is a very common service offered in the interior design industry, but it can be a bit confusing if you have never heard of this type of service. Let’s break it down and talk about the value it can bring to you and your project, and what a typical process looks like.

Let’s start off with what it means to have a full-service interior design. Full-service, or white-glove, or turn-key (same thing) is a luxury service that takes you from beginning to end. This means we’ll be your design bestie / liaison from beginning (design planning) through to completion. This not only alleviates you from unwanted stress, but allows you to live your life without letting the project consume you, giving you your time back. Each full-service process varies slightly from company to company, but below is our tried and true process for full-service projects that help keep our projects on track and running smoothly.

Phase 1 | Design Concept. Each project starts with a kick-off meeting to allow our team to better understand your needs, wants, budget, timeline, and design aesthetic. After that, we begin to design. This is usually the most anticipated part of the project (other than the reveal) as this is where your design is built! We do research, source product, pull samples, create deliverables (including 3D renders) to share the design of your finished space, and present everything to you.

Phase 2 | Design Detail. This phase is used to iron out all of the details of the approved design in phase 1. All technical drawings needed for construction that focus on the design details will be created and completed in this phase. This also includes your project specification book (spec book), which holds all of the important information about your design for contractors and trades to implement.

Phase 3 | Procurement and Build. This is the longest phase of the project. We begin ordering, tracking, and delivering all product needed for construction. We go through permitting, and then construction. While construction is progressing, our team is onsite for all key milestone dates to make sure the design is being implemented as planned. We are also communicating and partnering with your construction team to address any needs or issues that may arise during construction.

Phase 4 | Completion. Once construction is complete, we work to get the home finalized and turn-key. We bring in our cleaning crew, finishing trades, and finally we install all furniture and decor. With the home completed, we hold a beautiful reveal to unveil your completed home.

As you can see, a lot of time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears go into a full-service project. The value of full-service design comes from the combination of all four phases and an experienced design team to make sure the design comes to life as planned. I hope this was helpful in understanding what full-service design is and why it is so important to consider when taking on a large and overwhelming project.

Until next time!
